Feeling disconnected from your partner? Not communicating well? Having a hard time getting over past hurts?

Couples therapy can help you feel like a team again.

I help couples enhance understanding and connection between them by showing them how curiosity, bravery, and vulnerability can deepen intimacy. In our sessions together, we will discover the root causes of your conflicts and feelings toward each other. We will start with you sharing the history of your relationship with me. As we talk through your life together, I will also ask you both about the families and cultures that you grew up in. Together, we will use this information to start formulating hypotheses of why the two of you interact the way that you do.

I will teach you about the science of relationships and attachment and share our best knowledge and research around connecting with each other. You will learn strategies for improving communication and managing conflict, and you will use this science behind connection and intimacy to keep growing as a couple. Whatever the specific thing is that is bringing you in - emotional disconnection, struggles with sex, fights about your families of origin, money, navigating parenthood, etc. - we will focus on a foundation of truly understanding, respecting, and connecting with each other.

Need help with a specific issue in your partnership?

In addition to helping couples with general relationship issues like communication, conflict resolution, and intimacy struggles, I offer specialized help for couples in the following areas.

  • If you and your partner are in the aftermath of infidelity and want to see if your relationship can survive it, I can help you.

  • If money is a source of conflict between the two of you, I can help you navigate arguments and feel more confident in your financial plans.

  • A couples therapy intensive is accelerated therapy that takes place at a different frequency than standard therapy. Book long sessions with your partner if you have scheduling difficulties. I also have certifications in a premarital counseling program and a becoming parents program, which lend themselves to the intensive format.

Couples Therapy FAQs

  • While some couples think they need to be on the brink of a breakup to benefit from couples therapy, that could not be further from the truth: all couples can benefit from time dedicated to their relationship.  So, whether you and your partner are feeling curious about how to strengthen the good thing you already have going on, or you two are facing a crisis that might break you apart, you can gain useful tools and insight from couples therapy.

  • No, high-conflict couples are not doomed and yes, you can benefit greatly from therapy! In fact, conflict is a good thing; you just need to know how to fight in a healthy way. The couples in the most trouble are ones in which one or both partners are feeling apathetic about the relationship.

  • I work with all kinds of couples - couples of all cultures, ages, faiths, and orientations. LGBTQ+ and consensual non-monogamy couples are welcome and affirmed in my practice.

  • Being willing and able to commit time and energy to this process means we may work well together.  Please know that couples therapy is generally not a quick fix.  We all want to solve our problems and make our pain go away as quickly as possible, but relationship problems generally have taken time to grow into what they are, and it takes time to resolve them, too.  My best-fit couples have the resources and can dedicate time to truly prioritizing their relationship.

  • I can't say exactly how long you will be in therapy - this is determined by many factors. Progress is influenced by how much you work on your relationship in between sessions and your commitment to therapy, whether we are meeting weekly or meet less frequently for longer sessions. Longer sessions are recommended if 50 minutes does not seem long enough to go deep into your relationship and then wrap up before ending session. I can help with personalized recommendations during our phone consultation.
